National Student Volunteer Week - Bailey Thomas

9th Aug

In recognition of National Student Volunteer Week, and to celebrate the official launch of the Volunteering Mitchell website, we are profiling young volunteers in our Shire to recognise the amazing work they do to make our community great!

Bailey Thomas aged 16, was elected as Mayor for Mitchell Shire’s Youth Council Group in 2015 after participating in the program for four years. The Youth Council Group provided Bailey with the opportunity to advocate for change on behalf of himself and other young people in the community. Bailey developed many skills whilst participating in the Youth Council Group. He improved on his leadership skills and is now much more confident in public speaking. This opportunity provided Bailey with a strong sense of accomplishment as he became the voice of young people in Mitchell.

Bailey recommends joining the Youth Council Group as it provides opportunities to make friends, learn about your community and most importantly, you learn a lot about yourself. Bailey felt that he left a positive mark on his community being a part of the Youth Council Group and enjoyed every moment he was a part of the group.
